Alison DeCamp

Alison DeCamp was born and raised in St. Ignace, Michigan, where she walked to school every day with her head to the ground, looking for whatever treasures she might come across. Her fifth-grade pockets were filled with wrappers, rocks, and a railroad spike. Things haven’t changed much. At 14, when most other kids her age were swooning over Shawn Cassidy, Alison was creating miniatures for the dollhouse she made with her dad: miniature paper flowers made from tissue and twisty ties, tiny mice to live under the hole in the dollhouse stairs, or sconces made to house birthday candles were products of her over-active imagination. After eight years of teaching, Alison had the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom, one of the few decisions in her life she hasn’t second-guessed. Writing and making jewelry became a creative outlet that evolved into making her own lampwork beads. Now with both kids rapidly approaching high school, Alison enjoys creating miniature works of art in her studio overlooking Lake Michigan. She hopes to continue to learn new techniques in both glass and metal. Alison’s work has been featured in Traverse Magazine and the Graphic.
