Three Pines Studio Announces Upcoming Exhibit, "My House."

Cross Village, MI. - Three Pines Studio will celebrate its upcoming exhibit, "My House," a collection of mixed-media homes, with an opening reception on Saturday, May 24, from 2-7 p.m.  This event is open to the public.

Over 20 local artists were invited to design and construct a "mixed media, altered artwork, artful house." These homes, however, are of a reduced size.  Artists will manipulate a 10" x 7" template, with homes ranging from one to five rooms in size.  Each home comes with a House Plan, which includes an artist statement.  The exhibit will create a neighborhood of homes by Northern Michigan artists.

In addition to area artists, local students are also participating in the exhibit.  Both 3rd grade classes from Central Elementary in Petoskey will have houses on display.  Tim Jardine shares that the theme of the project is, "The Home I am Going to Have."  Jardine hopes the students will utilize mostly recycled items, "such as keys, buttons, wallpaper samples, pieces of old frames, ribbons, and whatever else we can collect."  The project has been incorporated into the social studies curriculum, where Jardine and Shelly Gudmunsen will also discuss, "lifestyles, cultures, and traditions."

The My House exhibit touches on a universal theme, the idea of home, and asks artists to convey their interpretation in an artistic rendering.  Though each house begins with the same template, the end result will be unique and personal, thanks in large part to the range of media these artists work in: fiber, paper mache, paint, metal, wood, clay, photography.

Local paper mache artist Mary Wadsworth turned to her writing for inspiration.  "My approach for the My House project will be based on my poem 'Robins Nest.'  My goal with this piece is to pull the viewer into the birth process of spring through windowpanes in time."

Fiber artist Susan Fox shares that her, "My House project reflects my fascination with the wild garden, the imaginary worlds of childhood and tiny surprises."

In addition to the My House opening, Three Pines Studio will also hold a related workshop on Sunday, May 25th from 4-6 p.m. entitled, "In My Kitchen/Sustainable Food."  The workshop will include artistic cooking demonstrations and delightful treats.  The workshop will be hosted by Ann Dougherty from Learn Great Foods.  Please contact Three Pines Studio to reserve a space at this workshop.

The My House exhibit will remain on display at Three Pines Studio from May 24th through June 16th.  The studio is open year-round with the following hours:  May through October, open daily from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. (closed Wednesdays).  November through April, from 11 a.m - 5 p.m., Friday through Monday.
