Moody Family Values is an exhibition of the work of four artists from two generations of one family: Eric Moody, Teri Moody, Adam Moody, and Dustin London. The show explores the creative approaches of each artist as well as the surprising relationships between their work that have developed over the course of decades, and which span a variety of forms and materials in both 2D and 3D media.
Eric Moody’s wood carvings of birds take on a rustic yet elegant simplicity of form reminiscent of early 20th century American decoy traditions, while Adam Moody’s vibrant abstract paintings and drawings share a similarly pared-down visual language of uncannily elemental forms and color relationships. Teri Moody’s abstract paintings take on a musical quality in their playful exploration of surface, texture, and pattern through layered applications of paint, and echo the tactility and buoyantly layered pictorial spaces in Dustin London’s paradoxical abstract paintings. An immediately recognizable link between all of the work in this exhibition is the importance given to shape and color as primary elements of visual expression. Yet, this is just one of many threads that unite this family of artists, perhaps because their most significant long-term creative influences are actually each other.
