“Growing up, my mother made us piñatas for each of our birthdays. She made our favorite cake, blew up balloons, hung streamers and made take-home treats, but it was always the piñata that I looked forward to most.”
Piñatas were originally created to be ephemeral items used to celebrate life’s journeys. Building these colorful art forms is just as much fun as cracking them open! Working with local paper artist, Zina Castanuela, workshop participants will create their own pinata from different kinds of paper including handmade, newspaper and magazines in celebration of the life of Frida Kahlo. Class will be held outside under tents. Please dress for the weather. Class size is limited to 10 people total and all ages are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Supply list will be emailed after registration.
Finished piñatas will dry at the studio and be installed July 5 as part of the Frida Kahlo Birthday Party. Break your piñata open at the party or take it home to enjoy.
