History of the Wood Block Printing
Four centuries ago, traders via the silk and spice routes brought hand-carved wooden printing blocks from India to the south of France. Since that time, wood block printed cloth has captured the hearts of Provence and most textile lovers. For forty years, Joann Condino has developed a unique style using her own collection of antique blocks and is now printing a signature line of 100% American Made Brand Cotton Cloth Coloring Books in northern Michigan.
About American Made Brand Cotton
American Made Brand was founded in 2013 out of our desire and commitment to bring back the tradition of American textile production. Our Upland Cotton uses only the finest yarns in the world and is entirely sourced and manufactured in the United States.
The cotton comes from all over the cotton belt which stretches from the Carolina’s to the Mississippi delta, Texas and California. It is grown by farmers that adhere to standards that minimize runoff and pesticide and fertilizer use. We just love supporting the people who are farming sustainably.
The spinning and dying is done in North Carolina, the weaving and dying is done in South Carolina and we bolt the fabric in Seattle Washington.
Producing fabric in the United States is a collaborative process and one we are proud of as this means we are helping keep hundreds of jobs in the USA.
