Capturing the Poetic in Landscape Paintings
A two-day workshop, July 7th and 8th.
This workshop will stress the importance of expression in painting. Painters often feel frustrated that they can’t seem to create what they see in their mind’s eye. I call this the “big Idea” concept. What is it you want this painting to say. That’s probably the most important question to consider. Here’s another one….what is the landscape saying to you.
We will explore various ways to enter a painting to get a feeling of what we want to achieve from the onset. There will be some process experimentation and various ways of looking inward as well as outward.
A soulful or poetic painting begins in the eye and heart— sensing something special and feeling its essence. With that said, we will also learn more about the parts of painting important in creating —namely, composition, value, edges, temperature and more. These basics are also crucial to expression.
I will meet you at your level— so don’t shy away if you are a beginner. There is something to learn at every level in this approach to painting.
This class includes demonstrations showcasing some interesting techniques. I will also stress the importance of inspiration, looking, journaling and taking chances.
